about

I wrote this in Seattle, just prior to my transfer. The entirety of my hopes, dreams, and ideas had been properly destroyed, and I was beginning to gain perspective. The piece's main melody line became something I would sing or whistle when doing rudimentary tasks (laundry, cleaning toilets, etc), however, as the album was beginning to take shape beyond the individual tracks held within, I realized that it would be a perfect opening to what I wanted the album to say. Originally, it was just supposed to be the main line alone, however, I accidentally hit record and sang along after the first take was down, and all of these additional parts kinda happened. Within about 45 min I had finished it, and besides some fine tuning of parts that took place at a later date, I was quite satisfied with it.

It is, on the musical face of it, a 19-part choral piece that is perfectly and completely screwed up. It doesn't even really end. The resolution does not have resolution.
