Siblings

from Intimatitudes by Bomethius

about

Vivian and I wrote this track. What's really fantastic about this song is that, the very day this recording was made, I had been contemplating a song about siblings—when I happened to hear Vivian singing the first draft of this in her room. I liked the melody, and knocked on her door inquiring as to what she was singing. She tried to hide her lyrics, but I caught them up from her. After some silence I simply stated "with some help this could be great." And then we immediately went out into the family room accompanied by a modicum of protest from Vivian, and between yelling at our other siblings to "be quiet! I order you to be quiet!" and them retorting that they were "being repressed!" we managed to get this take. And while it certainly isn't crisp and well tuned it does capture the nature of siblings. Everything is a little bit of a mess, even when we are happily making music together. And sure we could have found a more quiet room, and carefully divided the takes, but why pretend?

lyrics

You and me
Don't have to be
Enemies
We could be
Good siblings
And friends
We could play
All day
Till Mom comes in
And ruins everything
We could be happy
Just you and me.
