Borrowed Time (Single)

by Bomethius

/

about

In “Borrowed Time,” the new single from Bomethius, singer-songwriter Jonathan Hodges teams up with his sister, Caroline, for a haunting dive into the nightmares of internal monologue. The siblings’ voices drift and blend atop a dreamy meld of delicate guitars, eerie synths, and a keening trumpet that together conjure the dread of a faraway siren drawing closer. Prodded along by the lumbering plucks of an upright, the verses audit the barbed insults, doubts, and accusations that sink their teeth into the mind over years of pernicious relationships and self-loathing. Like an elegy for wounded souls, the duet closes with the spectral strains of Caroline’s scatting refrain — “you’re fine" — and is a promising sign of the things to come for Bomethius in 2024.

lyrics

Awful smug for a rebel

Who's been had

But you don’t stand a chance in my world

You don’t stand a chance with that girl

Such a loser,

Who’d believe that I birthed ya'

He’s not going anywhere

Don’t you know that I own you?

I’ve sealed the wax of your minds

What’s that you’re reading?

We bought the bed where you sleep

You don’t stand a chance in my world

You don’t stand a chance with that girl

You’re living on borrowed time

You’re laughing on borrowed time

You’re living on my time,
'til you’re not, 'til you're not

He’s not going anywhere

Don’t you know that I own you?

I’ve sealed the wax of their minds

We love our children
We love our children
We love our children
We love our children
You're fine, you're fine
You're fine, you're fine

‘Til we don’t
‘Til we don’t
‘Til we don’t
